Yeah, I tried the one built from source. It looks a little different (my 
mouse-cursor became super small on my 4K display -- no big deal).

Ultimately, that (from-source) version too manifested the same issue. This is 
crazy.

You can't reproduce the issue, so there must be something wrong with the
permissions/ownership on my file system or something. Maybe chromium
doesn't have the proper permissions to access (or write to) some file
that is needed to facilitate the tasks I'm trying to perform on the
bookmarks-bar?

  Chromium Freezes Upon Adding Folder to Bookmarks Bar

Bug description:
  When I try to add a folder to the "Bookmarks bar" in Chromium, the
  application freezes and I have to close and re-open Chromium before I
  can begin using it again.

  Steps to Reproduce:

  1) From Chromium's 3-vertical-dot menu, go to "Bookmarks" and select "Show 
bookmarks bar".
  2) Right-click on an empty section of the "Bookmarks Bar" and click "Add 
Folder".

  Result:

  No dialog comes up, and Chromium freezes
