Thanks for your reply Frederik. I'm also using Thunderbird 60.2.1 and either see file types to select or a message saying that no applications can be found. I think some of the wording is ambiguous but if I had another Thunderbird profile set up I think further options would be available for import.
I'll mark this bug as being fixed. If anyone else says that the problem still exists for them then I'll revert the status back to "Confirmed" and report the issue to Mozilla. ** Changed in: thunderbird (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/889885 Title: empty window in import filters Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: in thunderbird ver 8, when I go to tools> import> filters then next ... and he asks me what type of file you want to import and there is nothing to display ... for any type of import gilles@gilles-EP31-DS3L:~$ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu precise (development branch) Release: 12.04 gilles@gilles-EP31-DS3L:~$ apt-cache policy thunderbird thunderbird: Installé : 8.0+build1-0ubuntu1 Candidat : 8.0+build1-0ubuntu1 Table de version : *** 8.0+build1-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: thunderbird 8.0+build1-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.1.0-2.3-generic 3.1.0 Uname: Linux 3.1.0-2-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx AddonCompatCheckDisabled: False AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. Ubuntu 12.04 Had converted Eudora/Mac to Linux/MBOX and TBird couldn't see them in import. What I found was, TBird reads MBOX directly, and copying into the right directory solved the problem. The real issue was documentation, since everything I found said convert and then import.
