I cannot observe this issue in a 16.04 VM. I downgraded to 63.0.3+build1-0ubuntu0.16.04.1, removed all profile information, changed my settings to Qwant as the default search engine and removed other search engines such as Amazon and Bing. I then closed firefox, upgraded to 64.0+build3-0ubuntu0.16.04.1, and my settings were kept (language pack too, my default locale is fr).
Was firefox running when you installed the update? This is something I didn't test. ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1808243 Title: 16.04 : on each Firefox update, language pack and search engines don't keep my preferences Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Hi, today update manager brought a new version of Firefox, 64. 1. FR language pack is kind of lost in the process : https://ibb.co/28bbG9t « remove » that one and on next launch FF is in french again. 2. Google comes back as default search engine - instead of previously Qwant 3. Amazon comes back in the list of search engines, although I had previously removed it months ago 4. My prefered order of search engines get lost. As far as I can remember I had the same « jokes » when updating FF from 62 to 63 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1791789 https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?pid=22020197#p22020197 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1808243/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
