https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/281 involved the fixes for mutter and gnome-shell so https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/merge_requests/213 and https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/merge_requests/208 are both needed to fix this issue.
