I killed the process by opening another terminal. $ pkill -15 soffice.bin $ bzip2 strace.log strace.log.bz2 file is attached. WORKAROUND: I am using Libreoffice 4.0 from https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ppa?field.series_filter=precise on Ubuntu 12.04 and the file opens OK.
