We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all
reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug a long time ago
and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time.

I'm unable to reproduce this issue using Firefox 70 and Ubuntu 19.10.

Is this still an issue for you when using a currently supported version
of Ubuntu? Please let us know if you do otherwise this report can be
left to expire in approximately 60 days time.

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.

Title:
Opening new tab from shell command line freezes X

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
With firefox already running, open a new tab using command line, e.g.:

  /usr/bin/firefox http://google.com/

Firefox opens a new blank tab and tab top shows "Connecting..." but
busy indicator isn't moving. After few seconds, screen gives a single
flash. At this point X seems to be locked up (e.g. nothing happening
on screen, caps-lock doesn't change keyboard indicator, no mouse
movement), sometimes for only 20-30 seconds before coming back to
normal, sometimes seemingly forever (e.g. gave up waiting after 30
minutes and killed X). Similar happens on opening local file from
  command line.

'top' shows /usr/bin/X taking 100% CPU.

'strace' of the process shows nothing (i.e. no system calls being
  made).

  Chromium-browser doesn't exhibit this behaviour.
