After searching around I found the bug report #1849891 which suggested
to remove backport-iwlwifi-dkms, which I just tried. After rebooting my
wifi is working again.

Title:
network-manager keeps asking for wifi password can't connect to any
  wifi

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
This bug is the same as reported by #1859289, however I was not able
to find this when using the ubuntu-bug tool.

Since the last update my network-manager keeps asking me for wifi
passworts, but then never connects. Password is definitely correct.
  Everything worked before the update.
