Title:
  gnome-shell assert failure: gnome-shell: libinput.c:2157: assertion
  failed: libinput_device_destroy: list_empty(&device->event_listeners)

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  Sequence of events before this occurred: I started a rebuild of
  VirtualBox without disabling the "dangerous parts" while running a
  virtual machine, which brought my machine to its knees with swapping.
  After I had managed to kill the build and the machine over ssh and
  turn off the swap, the desktop was no longer responsive. Switching to
  a VT and back brought it back at a low resolution. I opened the
  configuration panel, wanted to select the monitor settings and the
  desktop crashed.
