Julien, you are right in that the icon disappears if the program is
simply closed with 'Quit'.

However, I have added added rhythmbox to Ubuntu's dock so the icon is
always visible. Right-clicking the icon displays "Stop & Quit". However,
while the program is running, rather than just 'Quit' you can now 'Stop
and Quit' from either the program icon or the icon that appears in the
top bar while the program has focus.

The new option in my view fixes the bug that was originally raised in
that you can now quit and stop rhythmbox while music is playing,
something that couldn't be done in previous releases.
