Title:
[ICH - SiS SI7012] Master volume control on ASRock K7S41GX has no
  effect

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
There are two (probably related) sound problems running Ubuntu 10.04.2
  on my ASRock K7S41GX:

  * Master volume control or muting has no (audible) effect. This causes the
issues described in
<https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems/KarmicCaveats#Volume_range_anomalies>
 - The suggested workaround mitigates the problem after adding both lines
(load-module module-udev-detect ignore_dB=1 and load-module module-alsa-sink
control=PCM) but does not fix it completely. After the workaround the first 10%
(guessed) of the volume control in the upper right corner keeps the PCM channel
volume at the minimum, so there is no sound. Obviously only the lowest setting
should set the PCM volume to 0. But this might be an Pulseaudio problem.
  * Lowering volume on the PCM channel to the minimum (which works) results in
crackling noise.

  Probably notable observations:
Detected codec differs from displayed codec in C-Media control panel in
Windows XP and labeling on the codec chip on the mainboard (both say CMI9739A)
  >$ cat /proc/asound/cards
  > 0 [SI7012 ]: ICH - SiS SI7012
  > SiS SI7012 with CMI9761A+ at irq 18

Using the generic driver for SIS 7012 on Windows XP available from
<http://www.sis.com/download/> shows the same problem in Windows XP.
Using the driver supplied by ASRock fixes the problem on Windows XP.

I had reported this problem earlier against Ubuntu 8.10 in
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/351042 - There
might be some additional information, I have accidentially left out in
  this report.
