Title:
Sound muted on log in after logging out

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
If I log out of a Unity session in Ubuntu 12.04LTS (fresh unmodified
but updated install) then log back in the audio is muted on login. It
does not appear muted in the indicator but muting then unmuting
returns the audio to how it was prior to logging out. Not sure if this
is a Unity session bug or a pulseaudio bug or something else entirely.
