Title:
[HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH, playback] Playback problem - 5.1 sound can
  not be gained

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
After the usual modification of daemon.conf (adjusting "channels = 6"
and right channel-map order), 5.1 sound can not be gained through on
jacks. This is an Alienware MX17R3. Contra-check: There is no any
problem under Win7 after dualboot. Alsa-base.conf: detection was
generic intel, which were modified to "type = alienware" and connected
Intel HDA settings, but Analog Output 5.1 setting does not appear
neither in the sound menu nor in alsamixer, only digital outputs and
SPDIFs. Only Analog stereo appears, which works as usual. Jacks are
correctly connected (Alienware manual and experience). Built-in
  Microfon also works as usual.

Issue: how to get 5.1 sound through jacks as analog output?

This is a fresh install from scratch (11.10 default Unity).
