Title:
  Login sound is too loud. Doesn't remember the last volume before
  shutdown [Aspire 4741, Realtek ALC272X, Speaker, Internal] Playback
  problem

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  I don't know in which package is the problem. Since I upgrade to
  Ubuntu 11.10 from 11.04, the volume is loud when I login. I can turn
  it down, but when I restart my computer and login again, I have the
  same problem. The login sound is very loud, I go with my notebook to
  university, and everybody look at me when I turn on my computer
  hahahahaha
