Title:
[HP Compaq dx2200 MT, Realtek ALC861, Green Line Out, Rear] No sound
  at all

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I do not know if this is a bug. I have installed every ubuntu distribution
for at least the last 5 years and the latest distro 12.4 which I installed as a
fresh install is the only one that I have had any sound problems with. I have
tried all the usual basic things to prove drivers and sound cards are visible
and loaded and I cant find anything wrong. Everything else appears to be
working well including compiz and the cube.
The sound has been off from the first boot after installation and before
anything else has been installed or altered.

  yours hopefully,

  Graham Innes

Sorry all, this problem was caused by the ALSAMIXER automute settng which was
enabled and only required to be disabled.
I knew nothing about the ALSAMIXER controls untill I read a mailing list
concerning the same problem. However since my install was a new one and not an
upgrade this setting must be the default one and must have caused problems for
many.
