Also check your gnome-shell memory and CPU usage. This is starting to
sound like bug 1869568.

Title:
Shell is unresponsive at the lock screen for ~10s after unlocking

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
When unlocking the session GNOME Shell now appears to be entirely
unresponsive (still showing the lock screen) for ~10s after entering a
correct password. This occurs on both an X11 and a Wayland session; on
the Wayland session the mouse cursor is frozen, while on X11 it is
responsive (and still changes the cursor image appropriately when
  moving over windows)

This only started recently (maybe a couple of days ago?); it's now
  100% reproducible.
