The cost of your monitor actually doesn't have much to do with its
colour accuracy. Although I find it strange even an iPad would exhibit
the problem because Apple is good at colour...

I still don't see any issue on a factory calibrated (100% sRGB) Dell
U2413. The contrast is quite high enough.
