Definitely worth filing a bug upstream. Could you by any chance test
Google Chrome to see if it's similarly affected?

  version 80 does not start using remote display (X11)

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  chromium-browser version 80.0.3987.87-0ubuntu0.16.04.1_amd64 does not
  work when using remote display; the browser window is a solid pink
  area without any menu (see picture).

  Same with the (existing?) command line option "--disable-gpu"

  Downgrading to 
  chromium-browser_79.0.3945.130-0ubuntu0.16.04.1_amd64.deb
  chromium-browser-l10n_79.0.3945.130-0ubuntu0.16.04.1_all.deb
  chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra_79.0.3945.130-0ubuntu0.16.04.1_amd64.deb
  resolve the issue.

  Description: Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS
  All packages are up to date on 2020-02-17 on xenial, xenial-updates and 
xenial-security
