I've updated the package in the PPA mentioned at [1], so feel free to test the packages again.
These should not fix the problem for mobile cards, as those seems to have another problem at modesetting driver level, it seems. For others, the issue seems to be related more to screen sizes that mutter sets, and the packages should address that, but not sure if that's valid for all the cards.
