Public bug reported:

This may be a duplicate of bug #1514057 (close it in case), but without
any PPA and just after installing Ubuntu in a new partition.

Followed this ISO testing script (so installed without connection):
 -
http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/413/builds/221687/testcases/1718/results

Once installed, I noticed the nvidia driver was marked as "free":

More detailed report from ubuntu-drivers was:

$ ubuntu-drivers devices
== /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:01:00.0 ==
modalias : pci:v000010DEd00001C91sv0000103Csd00008640bc03sc00i00
vendor   : NVIDIA Corporation
model    : GP107M [GeForce GTX 1050 3 GB Max-Q]
driver   : nvidia-driver-450 - third-party free recommended
driver   : xserver-xorg-video-nouveau - distro free builtin

Once I did an "apt update", this got fixed.
