Previous Ubuntu versions like 18.04 LTS, 18.10 do not have such an
issue.

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Have Ubuntu installed
  2. Launch MATE Terminal
  3. Navigate to some folder with long name - `cd 
/usr/share/doc/ayatana-indicator-application`
  4. Resize terminal horizontally

  Expected results:
  * terminal shows the same 
"user@host:/usr/share/doc/ayatana-indicator-application$" with single occurrence

  Actual results:
  * terminal shows multiple occurrencies of 
"user@host:/usr/share/doc/ayatana-indicator-application$"
