So upon running

gsettings set org.gnome.shell enabled-extensions "['ubuntu-
d...@ubuntu.com', 'ubuntu-appindicat...@ubuntu.com']"

the previous

org.gnome.shell enabled-extensions ['gsconn...@andyholmes.github.io',
'ubuntu-d...@ubuntu.com', 'ubuntu-appindicat...@ubuntu.com',
'sound-output-device-choo...@kgshank.net', 'darkthemetog...@jacob.mischka.me',
'desktop-c...@schneegans.github.com', 'audio-output-switcher@anduchs',
'clipboard-indica...@tudmotu.com', 'nightthemeswitc...@romainvigier.fr']
org.gnome.shell disabled-extensions ['nightshellswitc...@romainvigier.fr',
'caffe...@patapon.info']

becomes:

org.gnome.shell enabled-extensions ['ubuntu-d...@ubuntu.com',
'ubuntu-appindicat...@ubuntu.com']
org.gnome.shell disabled-extensions ['nightshellswitc...@romainvigier.fr',
'caffe...@patapon.info']

So it seems that deleting extensions via the extensions app/firefox
extension settings interfaces does not work, even if they become
invisible. Note, I removed gsconnect in ubuntu 20.x i.e. at least a year
ago, one or two upgrades ago.

Similarly, these disabled extensions:
nightshellswitc...@romainvigier.fr' and 'caffe...@patapon.info still
seem to be installed. These should have been removed from my system
months ago. Is there a similar command that would remove those entries
also? Maybe:

gsettings set org.gnome.shell disabled-extensions "[]"

Nevertheless, the gnome-shell memory use continues to increase after
reboot:

12:47 249 MB
14:47 430 MB
14:58 505 MB
15:04 548 MB
15:38 784 MB
15:45 843 MB
15:46 853 MB
15:48 867 MB
15:53 900 MB

Title:
gnome-shell memory use climbs to multiple GBs

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Gnome Shell memory use grows over time

Memory for Gnome Shell can be around 2.5 GB, sometimes more. If I do
Alt-F2 r to restart shell, it drops to 250 MB and then slowly climbs
  up again.

Occasionally it goes so high on my 16 GB machine that it swaps and
  crashes.
