Hi Marco, I didn't get any error on an old but up-to-date installation of 22.04 with LightDM, but got a login error from gnome-session when using a fresh Ubuntu 22.04 daily-live ISO and installing Unity7 on top of it (with both gdm and lightdm). Apparently, it works after installing the old version of gnome-session and then going back to the latest version with both GDM and lightdm (and doesn't work on both GDM and lightdm without doing so). This might be why it works on old up-to-date installs of 22.04 but not on fresh installs (which have the latest version of gnome-session installed).

I then tried installing the 21.10 gnome-session package on 22.04 and Unity7 then worked perfectly fine. Also, XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP is set to GNOME instead of "Unity:7;Unity:ubuntu" with the Jammy version, which is really unexpected and might be causing these issues. seb128 and 3vin1o: Neither I nor Khurshid are sure about what has changed between the two packages, and I think this is a critical bug.
