I don’t expect the events displayed to change, I expect the description to match what it does. Renaming it to “automatically open incoming events” and reversing its sense would be one way to do this

At first glance it looks like it would do what it says, which is control whether incoming events (messages) are shown in the notification area. However, what it actually does is “automatically open incoming events” (when off), or “hide incoming events in the notification area instead of opening them in the chat window”. This option’s description should be made more clear.
