The same happens with mov files that are encoded with other codecs, e.g. DV codec instead of mjpeg.
The problem seems to be the quicktime format, not the codec. The "plugin" totem searches for and cannot find when I try to play the file is "quicktime demuxer" And by the way this is a regression: in ubuntu 10.10 these files used to play fine in Totem -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/923038 Title: no audio/video info in Properties for mov files Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Right-click on a quicktime video file (.mov) in Nautilus and choose "properties". Select the "Audio/Video" tab The "Audio" section shows "N/A" or null values, and there's no "Video" section at all. See first screenshot. Gnome MPlayer can play the file and shows all the correct audio/video information in Details (see second screenshot) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: nautilus 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu3.2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-15.26-generic 3.0.13 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-15-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu4 Architecture: i386 Date: Sat Jan 28 13:20:15 2012 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" - Release i386 (20100429) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: nautilus UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to oneiric on 2011-12-07 (51 days ago) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/923038/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
