I made Marco's changes to /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ubuntu- appindicat...@ubuntu.com/appIndicator.js yesterday and have been using my laptop heavily today.
So far, after a full day's work with many laptop closings and openings, the Dropbox icon has displayed as expected. The drop-down menu from the icon also continues to work as expected.
