I have the same issue. Dell Vostro 5625 on Ubuntu 24.04 with all updates.
Only affects Gnome Camera (Snapshot), all other webcam apps incl browser are working. ** Also affects: gnome-snapshot (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pipewire in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2073982 Title: Pipewire doesn't recognize camera, but does when process is restarted Status in gnome-snapshot package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in pipewire package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The Pipewire doesn't recognize the Webcam of my laptop, so the app Snapshot desn't found a camera, but after I run this command it works: $ systemctl --user restart pipewire After that the Snapshot app recognizes the camera. Another information: if you use Cheese the camera will work, but after your restart Pipewire you'll find an option on Cheese to change from V4L to Pipewire camera, option that wasn't found until you restar Pipewire, meaning that the problem isn't the Snapshot app, but Pipewire itself.
