  1) $ lsb_release  -a
  No LSB modules are available.
  Distributor ID:       Ubuntu
  Description:  Ubuntu Plucky Puffin (development branch)
  Release:      25.04
  Codename:     plucky

  
  2) $ apt-cache policy gnome-shell
  gnome-shell:
    Installed: 47.0-2ubuntu3.1
    Candidate: 47.0-2ubuntu3.1
    Version table:
   *** 47.0-2ubuntu3.1 500
          500 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu plucky/main amd64 Packages
          100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

  3) I expected it to unlock the screen and go back to gnome-shell

  4) it crashes gnome-shell and returns to a login screen

  
  this affects both 24.10 and 25.04
