In this journal, PID 1784 is GDM's gnome-shell. The first two logs are very often printed when GDM's gnome-shell exits after login. You'll probably see the same in your system. The last log I only see occasionally, but it is still GDM's gnome-shell so not the issue here. PID 2611 seems to be the first user-session gnome-shell, which eventually quits with: [67147.794446] Yoga-9-14IRP8 gnome-shell[2611]: Lost or failed to acquire name org.gnome.Mutter.ServiceChannel [67147.803719] Yoga-9-14IRP8 gnome-shell[2611]: Shutting down GNOME Shell We're then kicked back to GDM, so PID 137924 is GDM's gnome-shell again. The user logs in again, and PID 138843 is the next user-session gnome-shell, which again quits with: [108302.392509] Yoga-9-14IRP8 gnome-shell[138843]: Lost or failed to acquire name org.gnome.Mutter.ServiceChannel [108302.405547] Yoga-9-14IRP8 gnome-shell[138843]: Shutting down GNOME Shell this pattern repeats a number of times. There's not much of an indication why gnome-shell is quitting... I would like to see the full journal, rather than being filtered by gnome-shell. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2102052 Title: Gnome-shell crashes randomly on Wayland with Intel Iris Xe GPU (Raptor Lake-P) Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: On Ubuntu Noble (24.04), using Wayland with Intel Iris Xe graphics (Raptor Lake-P), the GNOME Shell graphical interface randomly freezes, crashes, and forces logout. All running applications close without warning. This frequently occurs while browsing (Chrome/Firefox), but it has also happened without heavy system load. Switching to Xorg session significantly reduces or eliminates the crashes. Steps to reproduce: Log into Ubuntu Wayland session on a system with Intel Iris Xe Graphics (Raptor Lake-P). Open browser applications (Chrome or Firefox) and use normally. Wait until graphical session freezes/crashes (usually within minutes or hours of usage). Symptoms: Graphical interface freezes abruptly. Session immediately ends, and user is forced back to login screen. No visible error dialog upon crash.
