I seem to have the same problem. As suggested by apport-collect, I filed a new bug #929028 for it.

Sometimes when I switch the workspace to one containing gnome- terminal, g-t fails to repaint. The screen remains the default off- white colour. It hasn't locked up, if I right-click I get a menu and can do things with it. But when I close the menu, the area where it was isn't cleared. I'm using xmonad, and so don't have compositing.
