Yes, good points. On the top of my head I can remember this issues:
- how to fully accelerate a remote graphics device in a easy way and 
just using FOSS (VirtualGL is not easy).
- how to start an Xorg on the server PC in this kind of environment
- is X audio extension good enough to use remotely without jitter?
- what about the end of the desktop? (See web applications)
- how about the security when you have two desktop users on the same 
machine? (See ConsoleKit, PoliceKit and XACE-SELinux Xorg extension)
