For the record, Paul Davis clearly articulated that "Audio on Linux sucks!" There....somebody on the list is sure to pick this up. So moving forward with Linux audio, the plan was to (1) collect the ISVs that are interested in defining the audio api's, (2) hijack a mailing list, (3) create a focus group and generate use cases, and (4) target the Linux Audio Conference as a convergence point for the focus group. Also mentioned as an audio event would be FOMS in Australia next month. There was some concern that it would be difficult to get critical mass in Australia. Jeff (Waugh), would it be possible to get a list of those that are currently planning to attend FOMS? There is an existing mailing list for audio and multimedia that was established at the last DAM meeting that COULD be leveraged for this audio standardization workgroup. https://lists.osdl.org/mailman/listinfo/desktop_amm Those currently on this somewhat inactive list are: Brian Cameron John Cherry Christian Schaller Donya Shirzad Daniel Yek Motohiro Egota Egbert Eich Greg Wright Hubert Figuiere Jim McQuillan Kevin DeKorte Leon Shiman Marc Miller Scott Nelson Tim Muller Takashi Iwai Waldo Bastian John Walicki Yong-Gang Wang Last week, the LSB met and also proposed a similar working group. Paul, you are not the only one to observe that audio on Linux sucks. :) To make sure all the Linux audio folks are on the same page, it would be great to put a quick call together with those on this list interested in Linux audio and Ian Murdock (LSB). Ian is on the road right now, but I am happy to set up a bridge for call when he returns.
