It seems to me that what is being proposed here sounds a lot more like "Tier-2" than "Tier-3". If you go by the definitions here: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Supported_build_configurations
"Tier-2 platforms are those platforms that the Mozilla community actively maintains. Breakage or regressions in these platforms does not immediately close the tree; developers who break these platforms are expected to work with platform maintainers to fix problems, and may be required to back out their changes if a fix cannot be found" It sounds like "Tier-2" is still maintained by the Mozilla community and breakages are not required to be backed out. Whereas with "Tier-3": "Tier-3 platforms have a maintainer or community which attempt to keep the platform working. These platforms may or may not work at any time, and often have little test coverage" >From that definition, it sounds like the Mozilla community has little-to-zero >involvement with it. In addition, at the bottom of the page, it also reads: "Most Mozilla developers do not have access to non-tier-1 platforms so any bug reports against non-tier-1 platforms should be overflowing with information to help the owner of the bug determine the cause of the problem and the proper solution." By that, it definitely sounds like "Tier-3" is a completely non-Mozilla maintained build. I'm not trying to nitpick here, I'm just saying that we may want to add clarity to the definitions provided. It also looks like we have no "Tier-2" platforms at this time. So, perhaps it might make sense to move FxOS to "Tier-2" and rework the definition there to more accurately describe what it means. -Justin On Monday, January 25, 2016 at 11:01:19 AM UTC-5, Fabrice Desré wrote: > Hi all, > > With the smartphone activity shifting to a more exploratory status, we > have been discussing with the platform & releng people which setup would > allow us to keep improving the product and supporting our community of > users while minimizing impact on other parts of the organization. > > The decision we ended up with is to move Firefox OS into Tier 3 > support category (see > https://developer.mozilla.org/en-U/docs/Supported_build_configurations). > That means that other teams won't be backed out and yelled at by > sheriffs for breaking b2g tests, and that the FirefoxOS team will be > responsible for fixing such breakage.
