There are no immediate plans to change or remove WebIDE.

We are working on moving the device connection and debugging portion
over to a new about:debugging tool. Like Julien mentioned, these parts
of WebIDE can be used with many different devices, not just Firefox
OS.

Once this work is completed, we may decide to remove WebIDE to reduce
maintenance burden. I would not expect a decision on this until the
second half of 2016, as there is still much work to be done moving the
device connection pieces first.

After the recent Firefox OS announcements, the DevTools team has
relaxed their compatibility policies, so it's possible that older
Firefox OS devices may no longer be debuggable by future desktop
Firefox versions. If you are concerned about holding onto the ability
to debug existing Firefox OS devices, you may want to archive a
Firefox ESR release (or some other version of desktop Firefox) that
currently supports your device.
