Hi. I thought it’s time to give a little overview, of what we are currently working on regarding mozstumbler and the gamification side of it.
The MozStumbler UI and our leaderboards are fairly rudimentary today. We are now investing some time into taking these to next level with a bigger push, instead of incrementally improving what we have today. To that end we asked a mobile development studio out of Vancouver to help us with the UI and game dynamics, as we have neither the time nor the skills for this work in our core team. This collaboration is ongoing, and we have seen an early iteration of wireframes from it. The overall plan is to make a more engaging UI in the app itself and move the nickname/leaderboard parts into the app. We haven’t yet decided if this app will replace the current mozstumbler or be a separate app. It’ll depend on what exactly the app is going to look like. We know that we have an audience of more technical enthusiasts, who want a different experience than the more casual audience we are aiming at with the new UI. One key aspect of the new UI is a better way to tell users where it’s valuable to collect data to improve the overall service. For the backend services for the game (usernames, leaderboards), we are currently looking at using the Mozilla “Galaxy” project. This is a current prototype of a general game center build by Mozilla. This would allow us to more cleanly separate any personal data from the current service, further minimizing the risk of us tracking users movements. Most things here are still very much in-flux and very recent and directions changing. Just wanted to let you know that we are working on this. Cheers, Hanno _______________________________________________ dev-geolocation mailing list [email protected] https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/dev-geolocation
