Hi.

We made a small update to the coverage map yesterday. The map is now going to
highlight areas with more recent activity over areas where nobody has gone to
in a long time.

For example looking at the Silicon Valley, we no longer just see a uniform blue
cloud:

Zooming in even more you can clearly see where Mozillians descend on the
Mozilla Space in Mountain View:

If you live in an area that has been covered uniformly, this might tell you
which places nobody has visited in a while.

Technically we highlight areas based on how many months it has been since
someone went there. Data from the last month is highlighted the most, slowly
decaying over the months. Areas that have seen activity six months ago or
earlier get treated the same.

To make things a bit more confusing, we didn't actually keep track of when an
area has seen the last activity until yesterday. So the highlighting will only
work for areas that people will go to in the future. Over the next couple weeks
this should be interesting, as the map sees some major changes.
