Issue Type: Bug Bug
Affects Versions: 5.1
Assignee: Unassigned
Components: tree/list
Created: 04/Nov/13 2:46 PM
Description:

If you're using whitespace characters in values shown in a tree or list, those whitespace characters are almost invisible due to the proportional font we're using.

This is quite a usability issue because it's e.g. hard to find accidentally entered whitespace characters in the configuration tree. You essentially have to double-click on a value to enter edit mode to be able to detect it at all.

The options to fix this, which I see are:

  • use a monospace font: nice looking, but allows less of a value to be seen. We might not want to use it everywhere, but only e.g. in the config tree.
  • use a placeholder char when rendering a value (e.g. a square or underscore): not so nice looking and possibly misleading, if that character is actually used.
