I think so too. But probably a quick fix to get things back to a working state 
is the way to go for now.
Anyways I have always wondered why deletion (and thus renaming) works the way 
it does.

Alternatively just don't allow renaming/deletion of published nodes, so you 
have to retract a node first, before you can delete it.
