Hi all,
I have been investigating/searching all of the dev-list, biz-op list,
macperl lists for the past three weeks to be able to claim that I have
done so before making my personal requests known. I would like to create
a thread regarding the installation of the opensrs software and
adaptations to work within the MacOS running under Macperl and Webstar
which seems to be somewhat absent from discussion lists.

Here is what I have learned/achieved so far from my investigations:

1) installed MacPerl from www.macperl.com
2) downloaded and installed the cpan-shell into macperl in order to
install future modules
3) using the cpan shell/macperl I installed Crypt:Blowfish_PP (which
ended up in my site_perl folder inside another folder labeled "Crypt" as
Blowfish_PP.pm -- by the way the PP stands for Pure Perl)
4) using the cpan shell/macperl I installed MD5 from cpan (which ended
up in my site_perl folder as MD5.pm)
5) ok, so far so good... especially when I check for systax errors
within Macperl and get "syntax ok"
6) using the latest stuffit expander (available through download.com) I
unstuff the opensrs.tar.gz modules and templates
7) using BBedit (again available through download.com) I open each file
within the opensrs folder and "remove gremlins" (I found this feature in
BBedit under the Edit Menu) and "remove Line Feeds" then resaved each
file. (note: there was a mention somewhere that macperl uses "returns"
following each line instead of "linefeeds", so I thought this might
help)
8) again using BBedit I opened the opensrs.conf file and replaced the
appropriate folder locations (remember to use : instead of / in this
step!) and saved to the cgi-bin folder within webstar
9) opened the reg_system.pl file within macperl and resaved as a cgi
file BUT gave it the suffix .acgi (note: I guess this supposedly allows
other programs to work simulateaously while this script is "running") So
now I also have a reg_system.acgi file within my cgi-bin folder within
webstar.
10) I opened the main_menu.html file and changed {{cgi}} in the form tag
to point to the reg_system.acgi file within webstar
(http://www.mydomainname.com/cgi-bin/reg_system.acgi)
11) using my favorite browser (i.e. IE) I entered the url of this last
file into the url (remember its...
http://www.mydomainname.com/cgi-bin/reg_system.acgi)
12) the main_menu.html file is displayed!
13) I enter a weird domain name for availability
14) and get...."insufficient data error"

I'm stuck... please help keep this thread/topic going so us Macperl
folks will have more to go on!

-Wes
