Extended Character policy

Hello
I would like to know what is the situation/policy of OpenSRS about
Verisign's announcment of launching support for registration of domains with
additional characters (á,à,e,é,ò,ñ, etc)
This is being a "major" one in the spanish speaking market and we would like
to know if and how this is/will be supported.
