Keith,
The OpenSRS folks definitely live in the same reality
that we do; they recognized that each RSP will have very
different ways to capture payment, and therefore left
that part of the system up to you. They did build in
a mechanism to force new registrations to be "queued"
so that you have to release them before they are
completed. This buys you the time to verify payment
before you release the order.
Early on, I set up the system to store the CC numbers
for me, and I manually processed everything. Now I have
scripts written that feed the CC info into our payment
system, and I just verify the charge and then release
the payment. One day I'll get really sophisticated and
have the system automatically release the order when the
payment is made.
