Sounds like a cookie problem to me - same things happens sometimes with
the older client code, the browser just doesn't stick!  Try clearing your
cookies (might be painful, use caustion) for that CGI/your webserver, or
simply completely shutting down your browser (use another browser too!).
Try turning on "ask to allow cookies" in your browser so you can see
what's going where as well - and maybe writing the backend to see what's
being supplied by the server and what your browser is getting :)
