Since I do not know Perl very well I would like some help on the pack function. I assume it is a function, based on its context, to convert strings to bytes and bytes to strings. I am having a time finding documentation on this function. The first parameter can be either H or C and variations thereof. I realize there may be other values that can be used here, but those are the ones I see the most.
