Name Lookup Variations

Is anyone aware of inexpensive (free?) software for creating name variations during a name lookup?  Oingo.com has a service they market to registrars that does this (Enom uses it) but I'm sure it costs a mint.  I'm looking for something that will run in / be called from a PHP lookup script to provide semi-intelligent name variations from a users entered domain.   Thanks, Eric Prigge WebhostingONE
