Eric,

I think what you need is a whois client.  Only registrars need to have 
whois servers.   I would agree with Ross bw whois is an excellent whois 
client.  And his is available to set it up for you and to modify it for 
you for a very reasonable fee (free plug - that i dont get any benefit 
for)
