Hi all,

last night my dial up machine finally finished downloading all the
upgrades from a standard 3.3 installation. Surprisingly, one of the
upgrades was a new 2.4.29 kernel-image from the mepis repository...!?!?!

A little scared, I decided since the kernel-image was from Mepis.org to
let it overwrite the existing image and do its recompilation of modules
etc...

After a reboot, it was a success - nothing broken etc... but no
noticeable differences.

So:

1. Does anyone one know what's in this new kernel?
2. Should I have let it overwrite the existing image?
3. This is great news for future upgrades surely, if MEPIS now includes
apt.mepis.org in the sources for kernel updates - it means it's possible
to get newly patched/modded custome MEPIS kernels from apt-get upgrade
rather than downloaded the new ISO of the latest MEPIS purely to get the
new kernel!

Someone tell me if I'm right or wrong here!

(and will there be a new 2.6.10 with a fix for my serial_cs.o modem
problem + others?)

Surely, this ought to be an announcement on the mepis.org site too!

Comments please.

Rob.
