I didn't read all the discussion, but what is wrong with treating Date as a primitive type that happens to have methods?
The fact that in JS it's not? It's an object. That's just the way that particular part of the JS standard library works.
I know that it likely sucks to have all that custom code, but I've seen worse.
I'm not sure what custom code you're talking about. What exactly are you proposing?
