I think the reason not to formally object is that it leads to expenditure of both effort and political capital in a way that seems unlikely to change the result. It's an expenditure of effort because the goal is that the AC operate by consensus, so the initial result of formal objections is always discussions about what sort of compromise would allow objectors to withdraw their objections. And given the number of current supporters of the work, I think any director's decision that happens if there isn't consensus would likely be in favor of chartering the work.
