In my experience, it's good to avoid the big information dump pages
when possible. https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Introduction is still
longer than I'd like, but it's done a decent job of distilling a lot
of information related to Firefox development into a series of
manageable steps with links to further information on more specific
topics.
