It might be good to have not-super-fast-but-still-fast API which does all the
compartment handling automatically, and then super-fast API, which for example
Paris bindings could use, which requires manual compartment handling.
I don't see this thread going anywhere unless someone has ideas about
how to balance compartment strictness with API usability.
