Node is definitely not a default install in most distro's, but at this point that's probably as much because node.js is still undergoing a high rate of change and the package-management story definitely does not require or want distro support.
In terms of the Mozilla ecosystem, the Firefox OS Gaia repo is moving heavily towards using/requiring node for build and test automation. So SpiderMonkey wouldn't be the (only) one introducing it as a dep.
